MAHANOY CITY – More than 90 members of a Maryland church are spending time in Mahanoy City this week on a parish mission to help others wherever they can.
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church is hosting the parish mission of Jesus the Divine Word Roman Catholic Church in Huntingtown, Md. The group is assisting with the parish’s Vacation Bible School, making home repairs, painting, gardening, visiting the elderly and offering prayerful and spiritual support to the parish and community.
“We are so happy to be here. I love this town and smallness of it, the closeness of the houses and how the people are together,” said Divine Word parishioner Donna Wertz, who is the parish secretary.
The mission is led by the Rev. Daniel Leary, Divine Word’s pastor, who has spent his time visiting nursing and personal care homes and the homebound to provide prayers, blessings and companionship.
Leary is also conducting retreats in the evenings
